To Be Alive

What does it even mean to be alive? When the world feels like a harsh, inhospitable place. How do we find meaning and inspiration when it’s hard to find the good?

This is a world of ups and downs. A roller coaster, an ebb and flow. Emotions high and low. Hurts and highs.

It can be overwhelming for some. It can feel too much.

But in that “too much” is a deep deep gift. To truly be alive is to feel it all. The good, the bad.

It is a gift to be here. To play in such a bizarre world, to interact with others, to connect. To create any sort of life and reality we want to live. And when we bring our individual hearts and visions together, we create big things. Big shifts.

Incarnating into human bodies gives us the power to choose. To think, to decide in each present moment who we want to be, what we want to do, how we want to contribute to this bizarre existence.

For some, it’s easy to get caught up in the despair of the world, to feel that there’s no way out of the dark. And in those moments, there is need for support. To seek help from others who can help lift you from the mud just enough so that you can see the beauty.

Sometimes when we live in the mud, it’s all we see. It muddies our eyes, our beliefs, our thoughts. The mud covers us so fully that it feels there is no other way of existing.

We trudge through the mud, feeling heavy, slow, uninspired, and many times, alone. We think we must be the only ones that feel this way, so we shouldn’t reach out, because nobody else will understand. But in reality, there are many also in the mud, trying to find their way out. Encumbered by the weight, down in the dumps.

The mud is one of the reasons we are here. It has an equally important part to play in our lives as do the “high” moments of joy, love and inspiration. There is a richness in the mud that we wouldn’t be able to have access to in any other way. The mud is our teacher. It shows us where we need healing. It shines a microscope on the thoughts, patterns and wounds that live in us, that run our lives. If there was no mud, there would be no healing. Our wounds, and wounded parts of ourselves would be glossed over, forgotten about, suppressed indefinitely.

The mud is what shows us where we need healing.

What parts of you are living in the mud right now? Do you feel that you are partially submersed? Or do you feel fully in it?

When we are in the mud fully, it’s hard to breathe. It’s hard to see the light. It’s hard to feel the joy and inspiration of living. And that’s okay. You are okay. Being in this space is natural, it is normal, but it is not meant to consume your whole life. We have a choice when we are in the mud. Do we want to stay here? Or do we want to try something else? How do we see the light again?

It is in the questioning where your power takes form. How do you want your life to be different? How do you get there?

Just as there is a part of you who feels stuck in the mud, there is another part of you that wants something different. What does this other part of you have to say?

We all have wounded parts of self and whole, healed parts of self. Be curious about this other self. The one who wants better, the one who loves even when things feel really dark. The one that carries you through the dark moments. The one who has hope.

What do they have to say?

What qualities do they have?

Can you feel into how this part of you feels? What they think?

This world throws us into the ringer, shows us all the good, the bad, and the in between. It can be overwhelming for parts of us that need a little more nurturing and support. So when we feel overwhelmed, or in the mud, how can we nurture ourselves? What do we need?

Ask yourself, “what do I need in this moment”?

Listen, and take care. Allow the part of you that is nurturing and loving of self to take the reigns for a bit. Let your own heart’s light nourish you in the way you most need. And if you suddenly realize, “wow, I should get help”, then follow that.

To be alive, is to acknowledge all of it. To feel the feelings. To experience the highs and lows. To ride the roller coaster, and to see what sort of events and circumstances trigger you into going back into the mud. The mud is a gift because it shows us where we need more support and healing. It allows us to see where there are wounded spaces within us, and what we do with that awareness is up to us.

If you need support, there are many resources that exist to help pull you out of the mud. There are professional therapists and healers, trained to support you in coming out of it. The mud is temporary if you choose it to be. Just because you think you are alone doesn’t mean you actually are. Take your power back, and take the steps to receive the support that you need. You are worth it.

There is a rich, bizarre, beauty in our existence. Spinning on a planet in space, we feel all the feels, we yearn for love, we love others, we get inspired to contribute, create, and connect. We have these mega computer brains that sometimes get out of balance and pull us into the mud. We have these magical bodies that hold and support us. We have these wise, intuitive hearts that guide us. What a gift it is that we even exist- that we can think, feel, love, and create. What we choose to do with this gift is up to us.

It is my wish that you begin to see the beauty in every aspect of being alive, that you feel empowered to take care of yourself, so that you can create a life that fills you with joy, love and inspiration.

Know that you are not alone in this. We’re all here with you on our little planet spinning in space.
